Shopping in Bangkok
by Naveen Marasinghe
Bangkok is famous for its amazing shopping experiences. From bustling night markets to gigantic shopping malls, Bangkok has now become a thriving shopping destination in Asia. With the boost given from its thriving tourism industry, Bangkok shopping has reached new heights of its own. From cheap imitation goods to high quality jewelry and fashion accessories, Bangkok has it all. Its famous outdoor markets are a good place to be if you are a bargain hunter. These markets have it all, from low priced pirated goods to local snacks and dishes, these, markets are an intranasal part of Thailand's shopping experience. It's a common fact that Thailand is one of the biggest counterfeit product markets in the world. Here you can get your hands on to Rolex watches to latest Hollywood DVDs at a fraction of a cost of the original products. Though low in quality and highly unpredictable the imitated goods market in Bangkok is thriving and more and more tourists are attracted to it each year.
When shopping in the busy markets there are a few things that would come in handy. Bargaining is the key. You can always bargain your way down the original price and some times you might get more than what you've thought of getting. Knowing a few Thai numbers would also be helpful when sharpening your bargaining skills.
If you don't like mingling with busy crowds in hot outdoor markets in Bangkok, try the mega shopping malls and department stores. These mega establishment offer fixed prices and air-conditioned environment where you can shop in a more convenient way. The products featured are of good quality though prices may be higher than the outdoor markets.
Planning your shopping day is highly advisable. It's good to decide on what to buy and from where before you arrive at the markets. There are quite a few places you can look at. Mixing both types of shopping is advisable. Approaching the local outdoor markets in the morning or the evening is more recommended than in the afternoon, where the market gets busy and the heat is much higher. Allocate the afternoons for department stores and shopping malls where the interior is air-conditioned and much nicer.
A number of hotels and apartments in Bangkok offer various types of accommodation facilities. Compass Hospitality has a number of luxury 4 star apartments that offer a great leisure experience and Grand President is a great Bangkok Serviced Apartment that offer great luxury if you are planning a stay in Bangkok.
Thus overall, if you are planning to visit Bangkok, make sure to spend some of your time on the streets of Bangkok and have a great Bangkok shopping experience.
